April Ross

April Ross has won more than one Olympic medal. She is among a few female players of beach volleyball that have achieved this feat. She is set to compete in Tokyo to compete for her third Olympic gold medal along with Alix Klineman, who is a first-time Olympian. Ross wants to achieve more than her initial Olympic medal. At 39, this could be her final chance to take home the Olympic gold. The athlete is optimistic she'll be successful in achieving top honours. Ross was reported in NBC Boston as saying that when you perform at your very best, even if you perform well, you will win the gold. This is also an issue of luck. Ross was born in 1982 in Costa Mesa California where she lived with her parents as well as a sister. Ross played in numerous sports during her time at Newport Harbor High School. Along with indoor volleyball, she was a basketball player and also ran track as a pre-collegiate athlete. But she clearly was superior to the rest in this latter game. Her college biography states that she played outside of the hitter middle blocker, and setter throughout her volleyball time in high school. Gatorade Circle of Champions named her as the National Player in 1999. She also received her the Orange County Athlete of the of the year for volleyball. Although Ross Klineman and Ross are in the spotlight since 2017, the former was already a big-time player on the beach scene long before their pairing. In reality, she's had numerous big wins as well as one of her partners was a renowned volleyball player. From 2007-2013 she played with Jennifer Kessy who more recently was Klineman's coach. Together with Kessy Ross, she was a major force on the international stage, claiming an international title in 2009. The 2012 Olympic Games, they won the gold medal. Misty May, Kerri Walsh and Kerri Jennings were the trio to beat out for gold. Ross became Walsh Jennings new partner after May-Treanor's departure. The duo went on to earn bronze in beach volleyball at the Rio Olympics in 2016. Ross played for the USC Trojans in college years after she graduated high school. Ross had an impressive run through college. As a freshmen in 2000 the Trojans' performance earned her the Pac-10 as well as NCAA the Freshman of the Year award. Also, she was a key player in helping the Trojans make it to the Final Four. Her personal life was tense after a devastating loss in her sophomore, but was still successful in achieving the All-American distinction. Through her two final years of participation in the Trojans team, she led them to a national title every year. Ross was an excellent volleyball player and won the Honda Sports Award in 2003-04 as the best female college volleyball player. Ross majored at USC in International Relations. Margie Ross was never able to watch her daughter's climb to fame as a beach volleyball player. Ross's mother passed away from cancer of the breast in the year 2001. Ross had just become a second-year student at USC. Ross holds her mother very dearly. In addition, Margie continues to be an inspiration to her on the beach and in her daily life.
